Goodbye John, Emlyn, Yasser
Goodbye, Emlyn. You were Crazy Horse. You ran and ran. You had a high-pitched voice. We loved you on Question of Sport.
Sadly, you have gone to be with John Peel. John, you have also gone early. You gave all new bands hope. You supported music, and your team, Liverpool, with a passion. You died in Peru.
And soon, Yasser, if you aren't already gone, you will be with them. Hated and loved in equal measure, you never saw the Palestinian State you wanted.
And if there is an afterlife, what will you talk about ? The 90 minute game of two halves ? The Undertones ? The long-held dream of a contiguous homeland ? Or the awful finality of our inevitable ending ?

Arafat didn't want a Palestinian State he passed it up every chance he got. The only thing he wanted was the death of all Jewish people. Goodbye Arafat burn in hell.
Dan, I note that you are hiding - your Blogger profile says nothing about you. I suspect you may be lacking objectivity in this matter. Your expression of hatred is typical of certain bigoted views one side of the fence.
Of course Yasser didn't want the death of all Jewish people. He wanted his homeland back, the end of occupation, and for his people to be self-governing.
I am not justifying or defending his methods of violence, which is I guess the point you are clumsily making, but it's worth noting that both Mandela and Begin were also bombers in their time, without whom the modern nations of South Africa and Israel would not exist.
But it's as I said, Yasser was hated and loved in equal measure - and I don't mean loved by Palestinians and hated by Jews. In fact, many Palestinians were frustrated by him.
Nonetheless, for the longest time, as the world looked the other way, and Israel presented the Palestinian arab population as defeated and insignificant (Golda Meier even denied the existance of a Palestinian population) he continued to fight for justice and made the Palestinian cause an international one. I am sure history will remember him for this.
I'm not trying to be bigoted I'm just stating the facts. Arafat was a terrorist and a terrorist supporter. Who killed women and children. He was offered a Palestinian state and passed it up. Look up Arafat and you can see he is a terrorist.
You are not stating facts. Your statements are biased against Arafat. You completely ignored my point about armed struggle / terrorism.
I am not - repeat not - condoning violence. I think it breeds violence. But if a man has nothing, he is not afraid to die. Or kill. And if my land was taken from me, and my family killed or incarcerated, my pacifism would be tested.
You are clearly lacking in understanding, I don't expect this to make any sense to you, but since you seem to want to debate, let me ask you this: if someone came along and took all your land, your house, your orange groves, your olive groves, your schools, your beaches, your wells, your places of worship, and then offered you a bare dirt back yard and said, there you go, perfectly good place to live - you can even call it your own - would you accept that ?
